Camping des Barolles – an accommodation alternative on the outskirts of Lyon
Come and unwind in complete tranquility in natural surroundings, just 15 minutes from Place Bellecour via eco-friendly transport (bus, bike, or metro to Part-Dieu).
As a true alternative to traditional short- and medium-term accommodation, Camping des Barolles has naturally established itself at the gateway to the Lyon metropolitan area. Its location is also remarkable for its proximity to the treasures of the surrounding communes in the South-West of Lyon (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) and the many green spaces of the Lyon Metropolis.
From Beauregard Park to Fort de Côte-Lorette
In addition, Saint-Genis-Laval reveals its heritage every day. Stroll through the paths of the historic Parc de Beauregard, where the splendid 16th-century summer residence of the Florentine banker Thomas de Gadagne (the Château de Beauregard) stands on more than 15 hectares. The beauty of its terraced gardens, nymphaeum*, and orangery still bear witness to its grandeur. Listed as a Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments (ISMH) since 1943, this site remains today a haven of peace, just steps from the town center and Fort de Côte-Lorette.
Fort de Côte-Lorette – a place of history and remembrance
The Fort de Côte-Lorette, built in 1895, reveals a chapter of local history during the Second World War (the massacre of Montluc prisoners on August 20, 1944). This building has since become a memorial site, set in nature across more than 7 hectares of greenery, at the highest point of Saint-Genis-Laval. Other nearby towns have also managed to preserve their heritage, such as Vourles in the Lyon region, extending out to the Lyonnais hillsides.
Château de la Roche – a preserved treasure at the gates of Lyon
Further south in the Rhône area, the remains of the Château de la Roche are part of the Vourles landscape. Built in the 17th century by the Desargues family, the former property of the Chapter of Saint-Just was acquired by Pierre Thomas Rambaud, who transformed the current main building. Later, René Gayardon, Count of Fenoÿl, added the gatehouse at the entrance to the estate.
After exploring these treasures, take the time to relax at Camping des Barolles. Don’t hesitate to book your holiday online – and follow our latest news on our Facebook page.
